The Martin County Veterans Memorial Committee will be hosting a dedication ceremony on Saturday, May 25th for the now completed memorial. The event begins at 10:30 a.m. at the memorial site at 507 Winnebago Avenue in Fairmont. Guest speaker will be Vietnam veteran and author William Albracht. Scheduled events include Honor Guard presentation, a flag ceremony, and a brief history of the memorial provided by Terry Anderson, Chairman of the Veterans Memorial Committee. UHD to hold Community Health Fair

United Hospital District (UHD) of Blue Earth announces their inaugural Community Health Fair, coinciding with Hospital Week in May. The event will be May 16th from 3:00pm to 6:00pm at the 10 Talents Art Center in Blue Earth. MCW Voters Approve Bond Referendum

On Tuesday, voters in the Martin County West School District approved a referendum to build a new K-12 school in Sherburn. The $64.7 million bond passed by a margin of 966 yes votes to 901 no votes. A previous attempt in November of 2023 to pass a bond had fallen 50 votes short. Voter turnout for the special election was 66% of registered voters in the district.

Federated Rural Electric, Jackson, recently presented a donation totaling $7,500 to four local fire departments Alpha, Ceylon, Lakefield and Northrop. Spirit Lake Man Charged With First Degree Attempted Murder

A Spirit Lake man has been charged with attempted murder after an incident in Dickinson County. Caleb Crosby According to court documents, Caleb Crosby, 19, has been charged with attempted murder and 1st-degree theft. In a Facebook post, the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office said they were searching for Crosby Sunday after an incident near Montgomery. The sheriff’s office suggested that Crosby was dangerous in their post as they told citizens not to approach him if he was seen. Montgomery is a small, unincorporated community two miles northwest of Triboji Beach.

Isaac Sheard, a senior at Fairmont High School and a key member of its Robotics Team, was recognized during the Minnesota State High School League Robotics Tournament held at Williams Arena last Saturday. More Fairmont Students Qualify For National Speech Tournament

On April 26 and 27, six members of Fairmont Speech competed at the online Last Chance National Qualifying Tournament. This tournament is held after the district qualifying tournament to provide an additional opportunity for speech and debate competitors to qualify for Nationals. Fairmont Speech already qualified three competitors at districts in March: Junior Grace Simpson (Duo Interpretation), Junior Oliver Thedens (Duo Interpretation) and Freshman Leon Yang (Humorous Interpretation). Fairmont High School's speech team can boast of two individual state champions and an overall 3rd Place Team Sweepstakes honor from the Class A State Speech Meet.   Fairmont took first and second place in the Original Oratory category, with Junior Alayna Haefner winning first and Sophomore Bel Lutterman sweeping the top honors. St. James stabbing results in arrest

A St. James man has been arrested after a stabbing occurred Tuesday evening in the city. Authorities responded to a report of a man profusely bleeding in the lobby of the Watonwan County Sheriff's Dispatch Lobby at about 10:30 p.m. The victim received first aid and was able to name of the individual who stabbed him. The victim, a 30 year-old St. James man, was transported to the Mayo Health System St. James Hospital, and later airlifted to Rochester for further treatment.
