This past Sunday evening, 63 year-old Keith Douglas Romsdahl of St. James was injured in a one-vehicle rollover on Highway 15 in Fieldon Township of Watonwan County. Romsdahl was driving a 2009 Ford Ranger northbound when the vehicle went out of control, entering the ditch and rolling multiple times. The Minnesota Highway Patrol noted road conditions were snowy and icy at the time of the accident.   Romsdahl was taken to Madelia Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Watonwan County Sheriff's Office and Madelia Fire & Ambulance responded to the incident.

On Monday evening, Fairmont City Council and city staff discussed revisions to a city contract with the Kraus-Anderson construction company. On March 17, 2022, the city contracted with Kraus-Anderson for work on the community center, ice arena and refrigeration project at the Martin County Arena. Fairmont Public Works Director, Matthew York, stressed that the modification is not a new contract, but an amendment to an existing contract and that there were no penalties for removing the community center project from the contract, but that the city just needs to pay out the cost for services provided to Kraus-Anderson, which was $24,500. (KEYC) According to a release from the Sibley Co. Sheriff’s Office, at around 8:22 a.m., the Sibley County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call of a vehicle striking a house in the City of Winthrop.   Joshua Ryan Fritz, 38, of Winthrop, was allegedly driving his 2001 red Ford F-150 west on 4th Street, when his vehicle veered off the road, striking a house, causing severe damage to both the house and Fritz’s vehicle.   Both the driver and passenger of the vehicle were transported to New Ulm ER for an evaluation and treatment of injuries.

A Fairmont woman was injured and several properties were damaged in a one-vehicle incident on the afternoon of December 26th. 65 year-old Jerene Ann Zwaschka of Fairmont was taken by EMS to Mayo Clinic Health System Fairmont for treatment of possible injuries after the car she was driving struck several objects in the 900 block of Albion Avenue. A passenger in the vehicle, 68 year-old Paul Zwaschka of Fairmont, was not injured. A fire hydrant and crosswalk sign were destroyed and a concrete block retaining wall was damaged before the vehicle came to a stop after hitting a home at 918 [...]

St. Paul, MN: Farmers and agricultural landowners looking for assistance in creating succession plans for their properties have a new support available through the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA). The MDA has hired Jim Molenaar as its farmland access and succession teams coordinator. In this newly created role, Molenaar will advocate for and guide farmers and ag landowners through the succession process, bringing in additional outside team members that are necessary for success. An auction for farm land which has been owned by the Fairmont Area School District since being donated to the district by the Hunt Family in 1990 was held Thursday morning. A 38 acre tract of land north of Interstate 90 sold for $525,228, or $13,800 per acre. A 78 acre parcel south of the Interstate sold for a price of $770,913, or $9,900 an acre. The Fairmont Area Schools will use the proceeds, grossing $1,296,141, to add to the Hunt Farm Trust Fund, which is used for scholarships and educational enhancement opportunities.
