Last week the 80th annual convention of the National Association of Farm Broadcasting [NAFB]

was held in Kansas City. A “Night of Honors” banquet is held each year that includes

inducting two members into the NAFB Hall of Fame. This years inductees were Mike Perrine of

MP Ag Radio in Troy, Illinois; and Mike Murphy, retired farm broadcaster at KSUM/KFMC, Fairmont.

Murphy became the Farm Director at Woodward Broadcasting in 1983 with the passing of then

Farm Director Marv Carlson. Over the years Mike reported daily markets, covered ag events like

the Minnesota Pork Congress, World Pork Expo, The National Corn/Soybean Conventions, attended

local meetings and events and broadcast from the Martin County Fair for 42 years. Murphy, who

enjoyed 54 years in radio, is now an emeritus member of the NAFB after being an active member for

thirty-plus years.

With his induction into the NAFB Hall of Fame, Mike Murphy joins an elite group

of Farm Broadcasters from across the U.S. that includes the late Maynard Speece of WCCO Minneapolis,

Keith Kirkpatrick of WHO Des Moines, Orion Samuelson of WGN Chicago just to name a few.

Congratulations Mike on this well-deserved honor from all of us at KSUM/KFMC Radio and City Of Lakes Media.
