Monday night the Fairmont City Council voted unanimously to approve the hire of Matt Skaret as the new City Administrator. Skaret has been serving as the City Administrator for the City of Jackson, Minnesota, where he has been in the position since 2018. Prior to this, he served as the City Manager/EDA Director for the City of Springfield, Minnesota, for nearly four years, as the City Clerk/Administrator for the City of Milford, Iowa for four and a half years, and as the City Manager for the City of Madison, Minnesota, for over three years. Skaret holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Minnesota – Morris and a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of South Dakota – Vermillion.
Salary terms agreed upon include a start date of April 29 and a starting salary of $153,961, as well as $3,000 for moving expenses. Skaret had also been a finalist for recent City Administrator openings in Faribault and Brainerd.
