East Chain Memorial Day


The 129th Annual East Chain Memorial Day observance will take place on Monday. Coffee and Doughnuts at 8:45 a.m. with program beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the East Chain Activity Center (former school building.) Following the program, there will be an honoring of deceased veterans at Wolter Park in East Chain. The 4H Honor Guard will have a wreath and cross ceremony along with a firing squad salute and the playing of taps at the Holy Family Cemetery. For more information contact Moby Whitman at 236-4189.

Martin County Veterans Memorial To Be Dedicated


The Martin County Veterans Memorial Committee will be hosting a dedication ceremony on Saturday, May 25th for the now completed memorial. The event begins at 10:30 a.m. at the memorial site at 507 Winnebago Avenue in Fairmont. Guest speaker will be Vietnam veteran and author William Albracht. Scheduled events include Honor Guard presentation, a flag ceremony, and a brief history of the memorial provided by Terry Anderson, Chairman of the Veterans Memorial Committee. UHD to hold Community Health Fair


United Hospital District (UHD) of Blue Earth announces their inaugural Community Health Fair, coinciding with Hospital Week in May. The event will be May 16th from 3:00pm to 6:00pm at the 10 Talents Art Center in Blue Earth. The fair will be open to all community members who will be free to participate during the event’s open hours. MCW Voters Approve Bond Referendum


On Tuesday, voters in the Martin County West School District approved a referendum to build a new K-12 school in Sherburn. The $64.7 million bond passed by a margin of 966 yes votes to 901 no votes. A previous attempt in November of 2023 to pass a bond had fallen 50 votes short. Voter turnout for the special election was 66% of registered voters in the district.

Federated REA Donates To Four Area Fire Departments


Federated Rural Electric, Jackson, recently presented a donation totaling $7,500 to four local fire departments Alpha, Ceylon, Lakefield and Northrop. Federated took advantage of matching funds from two organizations to triple the impact. “Federated donated $2,500, then secured matching funds from CoBank’s Sharing Success Program and Basin Electric Cooperative,” stated Federated’s General Manager Scott Reimer. “Cooperatives are concerned about their local communities; we saw this as a way to help each fire department with costly equipment needs. Spirit Lake Man Charged With First Degree Attempted Murder


A Spirit Lake man has been charged with attempted murder after an incident in Dickinson County. Caleb Crosby According to court documents, Caleb Crosby, 19, has been charged with attempted murder and 1st-degree theft. In a Facebook post, the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office said they were searching for Crosby Sunday after an incident near Montgomery. The sheriff’s office suggested that Crosby was dangerous in their post as they told citizens not to approach him if he was seen. Montgomery is a small, unincorporated community two miles northwest of Triboji Beach.
