FAIRMONT PARK BOARD

The Fairmont Park Board Tuesday heard more about and discussed plans for a mini golf course project of “Kids Just Want to Have Fun,” a committee of Project 1590.

Committee member Ed Willett presented a design that includes a concrete putting area with the center of the course loop lined in plastic and covered in rock. Preliminary cost is estimated at just under $55,000. The course would be located next to the aquatic park, with the pool staff handling the clubs and balls during pool operating hours. When the pool is not open, equipment could be checked out at the Martin County Library by using a library card.

Willett asked for the board’s approval for the project so he could take the next step, asking the City Council for financial support. Board members reminded Willett that the council usually requires that groups requesting city dollars raise a portion of the funding themselves.

Board members voted to offer their support for the project to the council, with Craig Nelson casting a dissenting vote.
