The Fairmont School Board heard from Superintendent Joe Brown regarding an update to the number of students enrolled in College In the School and Post Secondary Enrollment Option classes at Tuesday’s meeting. “This time of year we always like to take a snapshot of our college in the school’s program and what benefits are drawn from it” according to Supt. Brown. He adds 22 college classes are offered to students at Fairmont High School. This year a total of 2,446 college credits have been earned by Fairmont students and that has saved them and their families a collective total of around half a million dollars in college costs this year alone.

The board also approved increasing the daily substitute teacher rate from $125 to $150. Supt. Joe Brown reported a continued great difficulty hiring teacher subs and COVID has made it more challenging. Substitute teachers have been receiving this new rate since March 11.

The Fairmont Area School Board also accepted retirement requests from Kevin Kristenson, elementary teacher, who has served the district since 2017. Prior to that he taught at G H E C for 33 years and Nancy Backer, high school nurse, since 2011.

The board approved acceptance of a $100 dollar donation from Fairmont Veterinary Clinic for the F F A program in memory of Don Schley and honoring his passion for farming.
