Federated Rural Electric, Jackson, congratulates the two local students receiving the 16th annual $1,000 Federated/Basin Scholarships. This is the 14th year that two students were selected. Emily Stauter, Welcome, receives a $1,000 Basin/Federated scholarship. Stauter is a junior at Bethel University in St. Paul majoring in social work with a minor in psychology. She was a graduate of Granada Huntley East Chain High School. Stauter is the daughter of Rob and Lynda Statuer. Faith Freking, Heron Lake, receives the $1,000 Federated/L&O/Basin Scholarship. Two Martin County organizations receive arts grants totaling $12,000

The Prairie Lakes Regional Arts Council is pleased to announce that Arts and Cultural Heritage grants of $156,400 were awarded to twenty-five arts organizations, community groups, and schools in the region with funds from the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment. The purpose of the Arts and Cultural Heritage program is to provide funding for arts organizations directly engaged in the creation of art, the production of artistic performances, or the sponsorship of quality arts activities in their local communities. The grants are for arts activities in all artistic disciplines which include instrumental and vocal music concerts; theater, dance, and figure skating [...]

MAPLETON YOUTH INJURED IN SUNDAY ACCIDENT

A 17-year-old Mapleton boy was injured in a head-on collision Sunday evening on Highway 22 between Beauford and Mapleton. The unnamed juvenile was driving northbound in a 2013 Volkswagen PTE, when at about 8:30 p.m.  his car and a southbound 2006 Acura Infiniti G35 crashed, the State Patrol said. The Acura's driver, Gabrielle Anne Petersen, 28, of Worthington, was not injured. The boy was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Mankato. Road conditions were icy and snowy, the patrol said. Alcohol was not a factor and both drivers were wearing seatbelts.

FAIRMONT HIGH SCHOOL ROBOTICS TEAM EARNS TRIP TO NATIONAL TOURNAMENT

The Fairmont High School Robotics Team participated in the Lake Superior Regional Robotics Competition in Duluth this past weekend and came away with the ultimate prize - a trip to the 2023 FIRST Championship (Worlds) in Houston, April 19th through the 22nd. The team’s robot was the most compact and complex machine in team history. It included a base called a “swerve drive” which allowed the bot to effortlessly zip around opponents attempting to defend against their efforts to score the cones and cubes that serve as game pieces in this year’s competition with their 180 degree claw.
