Fairmont Municipal Airport is fifth stop for 43rd Annual Air Race Classic
The Air Race Classic (ARC), the all-women cross-country airplane race, will be coming to
Fairmont on Wednesday, June 19 and Thursday, June 20. Forty-nine airplanes will execute high-speed
flybys over a timing line at Fairmont Municipal Airport as teams race the clock on a four-day, 2,538
mile course from Jackson, Tennessee, to Welland, Ontario. Racers may land before going on to
Wausau, Wisconsin, and may stay overnight.
Many racers take off for the timing line at 6:30 a.m., weather permitting. Teams decide where to
remain overnight in the late afternoon or early evening. All teams must be on the ground by approximately 9 p.m.
There will be a Touch–A-Plane event at the Fairmont Municipal Airport from 5-7 pm Wednesday June 19, that the public is invited to attend.
