The Fairmont City Council approved the consideration of a request for proposal for the potential sale of 414 Downtown Plaza, also known as the Senior Citizen Building, on Monday. Several parties have expressed interest in this building and Fairmont Economic Development Coordinator Linsey Preuss recommended that a request for proposals goes out that requires potential buyers to include purchase price, economic development that would be generated by this property proposal, and the quality of development offered.

The council also approved the sale of the property at 606 N. Prairie Avenue for $5,000 dollars to M-Mar Properties. Bids were opened for the new Public Works Facility but are being reviewed and contract amount are being confirmed due to their being well over 100 bids received. The council did approve a bid from Maguire Iron ,Inc of Sioux Falls in the amount of $343,500 for the industrial water tower coatings. The engineer’s estimate had been $350,000.

Fairmont Mayor Deb Foster read a proclamation for Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week for the council.
