News release from Fairmont Area Schools:

Fairmont Area Schools would like to provide clarification regarding information that was shared in an area media story last evening. The media outlet (Mankato TV station) stated: “Fairmont and Owatonna Public Schools have ruled masks will be optional.” At this time, Fairmont Area Schools have not finalized a decision on face coverings for the upcoming school year.

As we work to finalize plans for the upcoming school year, the health and safety of our students, staff, and community will be a top priority. We are in the process of developing a detailed plan regarding face coverings, quarantine expectations, and mitigation strategies for the upcoming school year. Our goal is to allow our students to experience the educational setting to its fullest potential while implementing an approach that will allow us to adapt to any changes in circumstances that may arise throughout the school year. Additional details will be communicated in the coming weeks as we work to finalize this plan.
