The Fairmont City Council secured interim legal counsel for both criminal and civil cases on Monday. The Martin County Attorney’s Office will handle criminal cases at a rate of $150 per hour during the six-month interim period. Terry Viesselman, Martin County Attorney for the past 25 years, said neither he nor his staff will receive a pay increase for the added work, but that his office can provide the needed legal services more efficiently and therefore cheaper. The Fairmont Economic Development Authority is ready to apply for a Greater Minnesota Business Development public infrastructure grant, which would pay 50 percent of the project cost for sanitary sewer and water main extensions to a planned 37-acre industrial property. Running infrastructure to the proposed new industrial park off Interstate exit 99 will cost Fairmont more money but keep options wide open for a variety of potential businesses. Martin County Commissioners on Tuesday approved a proposed prosecution contract with the city of Fairmont for a period of six months at a rate of $150 per hour at Tuesday's meeting.County Attorney Terry Viesselman was on hand to discuss the terms, the work involved and answer questions from the board.
